Night Clubbing!
A thousand mea culpas, blog readers! The kids are out of school, the car broke down and Chanel Bonfire’s sequel, Heart of Glass has a deadline looming and I have been remiss! A number of fun events in Southern California allowed me to meet more readers and I’ve had more fun with Book Group Skypes too.
But this past week, my rock and roll girlfriend from Chanel Bonfire, Amy Wachtel aka dj Night Nurse was in town for a great show at LA’s Echoplex. Holly Cook (managed by Amy’s beau), Sly and Robbie and Bitty McClean performed. It was a fantastic show and Amy and I picked right up, as we always do.
Back stage we ran into the bloke above: Steve Jones from The Sex Pistols and now host of Jonesy’s Jukebox on radio. I used to phone in from my car while I was working on Chanel and waiting for the kids to get out of school and argue with Jonesy about dates and acts from my 70s London childhood. So it was nice to meet him in the flesh.
Amy’s been staying in Echo Park with her friend Roger Steffens, keeper of the world’s greatest Reggae Archive. This morning, I’m driving Amy to the airport so she can head back to New York. Hope to see her again soon. But I can always listen to her on Radio Lily. And you can too!

Arkansas Book Club Skype!
Larger than life.
Such a fun time with the Book and Cocktail Club of Fayetteville, Arkansas, last week! These gals are fun and funny and we all had a terrific time. I love the virtual book tour because, I get spend real time with readers — talking and listening. Book store readings and public appearances are great but nothing beats a sit-down with a glass of wine and true dialogue. Thanks, ladies!

Happy 2014 to everyone!
I will be at the Wilshire Ebell Club on Monday, January 13th, talking about Chanel Bonfire and crazy moms and surviving childhood. Please come. There will be books for sale and if you already have a copy, I’d be happy to sign it or any other book you’d care to bring along. And there’s lunch in one of Los Angeles’ most beautiful historic buildings.
The club was founded in 1894 and its beautiful campus and theater on Wilshire Boulevard in Hancock Park were built in 1927. The club has hosted many luminaries included my distant cousin, Amelia Earhart. She made her last public appearance at the club before disappearing on her 1937 around-the-world flight. And it was at the Ebell’s theater that a young performer named Frances Gumm was discovered in a singing act with her sisters. She was signed to a contract by MGM and rechristened Judy Garland.
